Todo Life

About — Todo Life

Todo Life originates from a simple and familiar form: the to-do list.

Reduced to its bare minimum, it contains only three items: born, live, die.

What is usually meant to organize daily tasks here becomes a list of ultimate acts — not things to accomplish, but conditions of existence.

The project emerged from a linguistic shift. In French, naître, vivre, mourir are active verbs, implicitly anchored to a subject. In English, to be born introduces passivity, and born alone becomes neutral, impersonal, almost universal. Stripped of punctuation and capitalization, the list loses its author and opens itself to all forms of existence.

Through repetition, combination, suppression and crossing-out, each list explores a different configuration of these three terms. Crossing out does not erase; it transforms. Meaning appears through absence as much as through presence.

Developed between 2023 and 2026, Todo Life consists of short, autonomous lists, each accompanied by a title and a brief aphoristic comment. Together, they form a non-exhaustive cartography of the living and the non-living — of what exists, what persists, and what disappears.
